Message Almost none of us know what the fresh OEM ride quality was like, and those of us who do cant honestly compare something from today to a memory of 13+ years ago.

I totally disagree that the SPL and powertrix entry level coilovers are too stiff at their softest settings. I read a lot of posts saying coilovers would be harder, and it swayed me from them the first time around a few years ago. IMO it is based on nothing/misconception, there is nothing inherent about "coilovers" that is going to insist on them being harder than OEM, which after all, is a "coilover" design to begin with.

At MZF last year, I was chatting with another TTnetter who had recently installed their SPLs and we were discussing how surprised we were at how compliant and smooth they were on highways and reasonably paved public streets. They are simply exceptional, the same goes for the powertrix. A local guy just put them on his '91 TT, and he has ZERO track ambitions, just wants a cool car, and he is very happy with the ride compliance.

I have mine set to the 4th softest setting front and rear and the ride quality is WAY WAY WAAY nicer than my eibachs on OEM shocks ever were. I drilled discreet small 1" holes in the rear panels for access to the rear adjusters, and now I can adjust at anytime. I have never felt the need to make a switch "on the fly".

I too once valued "the oem switch" before I just decided the hell with it, and decided to see for myself what all the rave over the SPL's was about (that and outrageous understeer with the eibach/oem suspension).

One caveat to my experience is that I installed the ES polyurethane bushing master kit, and I use 17" wheels, this most certainly has an appreciable effect. My results may or may not be representative of others who continue to drive on worn out bushings, and if you decide to use 18" wheels or foolishly even bigger, I cant see how you could expect the coilovers to absorb everything at any of the firmer settings.

I liken my ride quality to anything german and reasonably new that I have ever driven.
